They are both written by Jeannette Walls. The first is entitled "Half-Broke Horses" and is the fascinating life story of the author's grandmother, written as a novel.
The second is called "The Glass Castle" and is the life story of the author and her overcoming adversity (the worst poverty imaginable).
I enjoyed Half-Broke Horses immensely, and had a very hard time putting The Glass Castle down. I think I finished that one in a day or two.
My two-year old was under the weather with a stomach virus and just wanted to be held and close to me, so I gave him some homemade grape juice (hence his mustache) and let him nap on my lap while I read. Everyone was happy!

I find books like this so interesting! Will put them on my library list. It's so nice to get some reading time in.
