Apples, apples everywhere...

The Aloha Knitter and I were recently informed of an apple tree in need of picking. Ripe apples! I'm not sure of the exact name of this apple variety, but I've heard something about "Yellow Translucent". Sound right??

They are a soft apple, suitable mainly for making applesauce and apple butter.

The Knitter and I and our various children picked and picked and picked some more. I think we each went home with close to 200 pounds of apples!

I was tied to the kitchen for 1 and a half days. By the end of the second day, I was incredibly crabby and didn't want to see another apple.

But the applesauce and apple butter turned out so delicious!

I canned 40 quarts & 6 pints of sauce, and 16 pints of butter!
