Grill Out this Sunday! Brew & Brush, CSA apple picking begins, plus more Brew & Farm News!

We're having a Grill Out this Sunday, August 12 from 12-5!  Details below.

There is only 1 week left until our "Brew & Brush" painting class with artist Mia!  We still have spots left - Scroll down for more details.

CSA Farm Members, your veggie list for this week can be found toward the end of this newsletter. Please note that we have u-pick yellow apples available this week for all CSA members! (The red apples are not ripe yet, but we have one tree in our orchard with yellow apples that are ready).  More details on this in the CSA section below.

Farm CSA Members: Group B half-share members and Full Share members, you are scheduled to pickup your organic vegetable shares this weekend. Scroll down for details on this week's CSA items.

In our Tap Room this weekend, open Fridays 4-9 pm, Saturdays 12-9 pm, and Sundays 12-5 pm, we will be pouring fresh from our taps:
  • El Capitan - mild IPA brewed with Amarillo & El Dorado hops
  • Dark Side - Stout
  • Overcast - German-style Hefeweizen
  • Unicorn Tears -  copper colored, malty ale
  • Alton - mild brown ale
  • Honey Wheat - mild & easy drinking!
  • Peach Mango Ale - a sweeter style fruit beer 
  • Homemade Root Beer (non-alcoholic)
In addition to fresh beer by the glass, we also have growler fills available for carry-out!  
Upcoming Events at Wishful Acres:
 
  • Grill Out - August 12 (Sunday) -  **Grill Out** from 12-5 pm!  Most meat items are $5, and include Mrs. Mike's potato chips.  There will be food cooked to order: Grilled Hamburgers, Grilled Beer Bratwurst, Fried Cheese Curds, and more!  Please note: food truck items are cash only. 
  • Brew & Brush with Artist Mia!  August 18 & 19 - Mia will be leading this class in creating a Summer Scene painting. Snacks & a drink are included. 
  • Jalapeno Ale tapping!  Labor Day Weekend - August 31, September 1 & 2
  • Final Grill Out of the Season - September 9 (Sunday) -  12-5 pm

Join us for "Brew & Brush" on Saturday, August 18 from 11:00-1:00 or Sunday, August 19, from 12:00-2:00 pm. Ages 21+. In this class, you'll create this summer scene painting under the instruction of our friend, local artist Mia Rudolph!

Welcome all levels of painting abilities! In this class, you will create a 16" x 20" painting with acrylic on canvas! Mia will guide you through the process of painting this subject, pictured here, of a beautiful summer scene. This painting is easier to make than it looks! Mia will be instructing the class step-by-step and using stencils as well. Included in the cost of your class: the canvas, paint, supplies, snacks,1 drink token (1 pint glass of our homemade craft beers or a homemade root beer), and door prize by artist Mia are all provided in the cost of your class!  $39 per person.

About the artist instructing your class: Mia Rudolph is a local artist who works in acrylics, color pencil, and other mediums. She is a full-time school nurse and has 3 children. Mia attended WIU and studied studio art. It is Mia's colorful artwork that we have on display in our taproom here at Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery!

Pre-registration for this class is required. You can sign-up and pay here through our online store, or in-person at our taproom during open hours. Registration deadline is the Friday prior to the painting dates. Ages 21+

Farm CSA Members: In your share of organic items this week:
  • Tomatoes!!!-  More tomatoes are ripening each week, and this week you'll get the regular sized slicing tomatoes, as well as plenty of cherry tomatoes.  Please pick up your share promptly during tomato season, our tomatoes are very perishable and we do not refrigerate them for best taste.  Tomatoes in your share include:
  • Chocolate Cherry Tomatoes - purple colored cherry tomatoes
  • White Cherry Tomatoes - white / light yellow colored cherry tomatoes
  • Sun Gold Cherry Tomatoes - super sweet orange cherry tomatoes
  • Red Amish Cherry Tomatoes -  large red cherry tomatoes
  • Red Slicing Tomatoes - regular slicing tomatoes!
  • Orange Slicing Tomatoes - The 1st ripe "Moonglow" orange tomatoes
  • Garlic - Freshly harvested, this small garlic bulb will still be crunchy!
  • Zucchini & Summer Squash- A nice bag of light green Middle Eastern variety zucchini, yellow crookneck, and regular zucchini
  • Patty Pan Summer Squash - A big bag of yellow & white patty pan squash. Great for stuffing & baking!
  • Hot Peppers- A few large chili peppers & some smaller jalapeno too. 
  • Basil- Yum, fresh basil! Great with your fresh tomatoes!
  • Asian Cucumbers - 2 of these in each of your shares. Asian cucumbers are longer than a regular cucumber, similar to the "English" or "burpless" type of long cucumbers you see wrapped in plastic in grocery stores. Our favorite type of cucumber!
  • Cucumbers - Several each! 
  • Bell Pepper - Sweet bell peppers. You'll see 2 crunchy fresh bell peppers in your share. 
  • Optional U-Pick Bonus Items: Yellow Apples!  These small organic yellow apples are crunchy & delicious!  CSA Members may pick from this 1 yellow apple tree (the red apple trees are not ripe yet).   Ask us to point out the tree, and we can provide a bag if needed!  This is a CSA Member benefit!  :)
