Happy 10th Anniversary, Wishful Acres!!  This and more Brew & Farm News!

Oh my gosh, where did the time go??!!  This week, the first seeds of the season were planted into our farm's greenhouse flats.  This marks the beginning of our 10th year!  Thank you all for your many years of support... first you supported us as Wishful Acres Farm, and now you support us as Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery!!!  Thank you for allowing our business to grow & flourish!  If you scroll down, you can read a brief history of our past 10 years in business!
HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, WISHFUL ACRES!!!

Yes, it really has been 10 years since the humble beginnings of Wishful Acres Farm!

Below, we'll take you through the years with us..... :)

First, family pictures, because nothing shows the time better than how much our children have grown through the years of Wishful Acres!
Our 3 sons harvesting pumpkins in 2009 in our first farm plot, ages 1, 3, and 5
This farm plot was on rented farm land, before we owned our own farm... hence the name "Wishful Acres" (which you'll learn about soon below).  During these first years, the Wishful Acres farm harvest was sold by Penny at local farmers markets. We ended farmers market sales in 2011, when we switched over all of our farm sales into CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

Our family now, at Christmas, 2017 (boys ages 10, 12, and 14).  Thanks everyone for your many years of support!!!
As we celebrate 10 years, here is a little more about us!!!

About Us

From our Farm & Brewery to your Table & Glass

Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery is a small family farm and artisan craft brewery located in the beautiful rolling hills of Northwest Illinois, near the cities of Freeport and Lena.  Our farm grows over a hundred different varieties of hops, vegetables, and fruits, all of which are grown organically.  Our artisan craft micro-brewery features beer brewed right here on site inside our renovated barn!  Many of our organic crops are used to create our beers!

Who we are

Meet the Petersons!  Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery is a small family farm and craft brewery owned & operated by Nate & Penny Peterson.  Nate is the brewer and Penny is the farmer & business manager, and we've combined our passions into one business!   Our farm began as a dream, or "wish", in the early 2000s.  We lived in the city of Freeport and began growing with a small, organic, backyard garden, and homebrewing beer.  This garden was expanded in 2009, when we rented a half acre plot of farmland just outside of town and dubbed the business "Wishful Acres Farm" (since we wished" for our own farm!).  Then we made the big move! In early 2011, we found and purchased our own 10-acre farm nearby!  Wish "fulfilled"!  2018 marks our 10th season in business as an organic vegetable & hops farm.

Our brewery also began as a "wish" way back in 2008, when Nate began homebrewing & crafting his own unique beer recipes.  Nate has been brewing as a hobbyist for nearly 10 years and he also worked as head brewer at another craft brewery for a couple of years. After nearly 6 years of "wishful" thinking & planning for our own brewery... in 2016, we expanded the farm business by adding our own small artisan craft brewery, where we create new, exciting, and unique beers!  We also feature an on-site tap room & beer garden that is open to the public.  In early 2017, another "wish" came true when our business became large enough for Nate to leave his full-time "day job" in Rockford to brew full time!  Our beer is available here in our brewery taproom & also on tap in many nearby bars & restaurants!

Our family of 5 (we also have 3 school-age sons) now lives here in the country on our family farm, over 5 miles from the nearest small village.  We raise several acres of organic vegetables, herbs, some fruits, and hops!  Our artisan craft brewery produces unique beers in a unique place, all handcrafted in very small batches.
Wishes can come true!

Best Wishes from Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery, and we hope to see you again soon!
