Help Wanted: Farm Internships Available!

.
Wishful Acres is expanding!

We are seeking help on the farm.  A couple of internships are still available - we will provide all your meals, your boarding (interns reside in the cabin or mobile home on farm), as well as a small weekly stipend to help with necessary purchases.

Job Description:

Join us as we grow on our family farm! We raise organic vegetables for sale at nearby farmers markets & grocery stores, chickens for eggs, hops for beer brewing, fruits, and more. Here you can learn organic farming and gardening, food preserving (canning, freezing), beer brewing, winemaking, and healthy cooking from scratch. Our farm is Certified Naturally Grown.

Our family farm is located on 10 acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Northwest Illinois near the city of Lena. Chicago is about 100 miles to the east, and we are about 10 miles south of the Wisconsin border. Our farm is in a beautiful, quiet, and secluded area.

Work will consist of planting seeds and transplants, weeding, harvesting, washing & preparing vegetables for sale, farmers market help, chicken feeding & watering, egg collecting, and other misc farm duties. This is our first year on our own farm (we rented farmland the past 2 years, and just purchased our own farm this past January), so there will be lots of work tilling & preparing new garden areas. You can help a farm be built-up from scratch, and learn a lot along the way. The work is physically challenging, hard manual labor. You will be outdoors for hours a day, working hard. You can expect to work around 6 hours per day (some more, some less), with one day off. You'll be tan, fit, and bug-bit! Hopefully you'll love it as much as we do.

Interns will reside on the farm. There is a cabin and mobile home on site, and you may have a roommate. The cabin has a sleeping loft as well as room for a main floor bed.  The mobile home has 3 bedrooms. We will provide all of your meals (interns expected to help with meal cleanup & cooking - if you enjoy to cook, this can be considered part of your "work" here!). Much of the food cooked & eaten here comes right from our farm - the eggs, vegetables, herbs, and more. We can accommodate special diets to the best of our ability (such as vegetarian, vegan).
