Homemade Pizza with Whole Wheat Crust

I use a bread machine to make the pizza dough.  This makes a double batch of pizza dough, so you can make 2 pizzas or save half the dough (in the fridge for up to a week) for next time.

Pizza Dough
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons sugar
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast

Use dough setting on bread machine.

Remove dough when ready.  Spread onto a cookie sheet or a floured surface if using a pizza stone.

Put on sauce; a tomato sauce, plain olive oil, or pesto, depending upon what type of pizza you're making.

Add the cheese & any vegetables or meat.

Bake at 425 degrees for approximately 15-25 minutes.  Keep checking after 15 minutes to see how crisp the crust is, and make sure the cheese doesn't burn.

Enjoy!

  1. Your recipe looks similar to mine. I add a bit of garlic powder and italian herbs into the mix. I usually make one large pizza and use the other half for bread sticks.

  2. Hello,
I have a question about this recipe..do you only put in 1/2 cup water? Your recipe said 1/2 cups and I am wondering if I am not seeing the whole amount. The reason being I thought 1/2 cup seemed small for 4 cups of flour and when I made it the dough never turned out I think I did not have enough water in it. :) I did however also make your crockpot refried beans and they turned out AWESOME! I love your blog.

  3. Thanks, Jenna, for catching that! It should say 1 1/2 cups. I've updated the recipe.
