We're in the News!
Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery was recently featured in the Journal Standard newspaper in Freeport, IL. The article iscusses Wishful Acres recently being accepted into the "Illinois Made" campaign! The Illinois Made campaign highlights Illinois businesses who create their own products within the state of Illinois, and especially those who use local, Illinois products. (Every vegetable that goes to our farm members is grown right here on site, and we also use many of our own farm-grown items to make some of our special beers!). Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Member News
Our recipe database contains cooking ideas for all the vegetables we grow - link here. Farm CSA Members: In your share of organic items this week:
Beets- A nice bag of deep red beets! Cook by your favorite method: boiled, roasted, pickled, etc!
Patty Pan Summer Squash- A big bag of beautiful yellow Patty Pan Squash! These are round in shape and can be used just like zucchini. Or, our favorite way to cook them: cut off the top/stem portion, then scoop out the insides, and stuff them! Fill with cheese, meat, whatever you'd like, and then bake until tender. See our recipe database, link at the top of this list, for more ideas like this.
Hot Peppers- A few large chili peppers & some smaller jalapeno too.
Yellow Beans- A nice sized bag of beautiful colored yellow beans. Enjoy just like regular green beans. We think yellow beans have a milder flavor than green beans, and the color is great!
Basil- The first fresh basil of the season! Great for making pesto, livening up a pizza, or just enjoying sprinkled on top of your Italian foods!
Asian Cucumbers - 2 of these in each of your shares. Asian cucumbers are longer than a regular cucumber, similar to the "English" or "burpless" type of long cucumbers you see wrapped in plastic in grocery stores. Our favorite type of cucumber!
Cucumbers - Bumper crop year for cucumbers!!! The peak of the harvest may be here for cukes. Get ready for lots of cukes - you'll get 7 each in your share, plus Asian cukes as well. Get ready to make some cucumbers salads, and maybe some refrigerator pickles!
Broccoli - The last of the broccoli. Just like the sugar snap peas, broccoli enjoy cool weather and this particular year was not stellar for our broccoli crop.
Green Pepper - Sweet bell peppers. You'll see just 2 in your share, green and a maybe a few purple as well!
Australian Yellowleaf Lettuce - This heirloom variety of lettuce originates in Australia! This lettuce tolerates hot weather better than most, which is why we're able to provide lettuce in your shares this time of year!
Zucchini & Summer Squash - You'll see 2 varieties in your bag, and each bag contains a few zucchini. Regular green zucchini, light green Middle Eastern zucchini, or yellow crookneck summer squash. Use all varieties just like you would cook regular zucchini.
