Devastation. Dealing with Mother Nature's wrath on the farm!
Heavy wind took down one of our trees yesterday. It knocked down the fence around one of the chicken runs and somehow knicked the top of the propane tank. I was home alone with my sons battling with a propane leak. I did get the tank shut off, but that's not something I want to deal with again for a long time!
This is the 2nd time this week Mother Nature has caused wrack & ruin on our farm. Last Sunday we had a 15 minute hailstorm that severely damaged all the crops. Hail tore through the delicate lettuce leaves, red kale, spinach, mustard greens, chard, asian greens, and knicked all remaining ripe tomatoes. I was able to harvest just enough for the csa (althought their bounty won't be as large this week due to the hail), but I have barely anything decent leftover for farmers market.
Oh, and yes have I mentioned that vine borer bugs took out nearly all our whole winter squash, pumpkin, and gourd crop? 1/3 acre crop gone.
If bad things come in 3's then we're done, right!?

Whoa.... how frightening. I'm glad no one got hurt with the tree.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about the vine borers. And the hail.
Tough week for you! I hope this week is better.
