I had such envy when I saw this purple basil in the seed catalog. I knew I had to grow it. We've come to love pesto over the past couple of years and I would love to serve some purple pesto. Why? Oh, why not! Kind of like the blue potatoes we grow. Why not?! I guess I just like to freak people out.
The purple basil seeds are sprouting now in the "greenhouse"! Can you spot them against the brown potting soil? The green basil is at the back of the flat, and the purple is right at the front.
Now I want purple basil, too :) ! I love all the different varieties. I've picked all sorts of fun things for the garden- purple, yellow & green pole beans, purple bush beans, pineapple tomatillo, colorful quinoa ... and I must get some purple basil now as well.
